Public Art

The Harroun River Walk Mural Project is a joint project with the Northview/Southview Art Departments and their students. Under the supervision of their teachers, students created a beautiful mural to the underpass on the Harroun River Walk trail. The project was funded by the City of Sylvania and coordinated by Sylvania Arts.

The Sylvania Community Arts Commission is responsible for curating and maintaining a great collection of public art throughout Sylvania. These works enhance our daily lives, bring business in from outside our city, and activate our community.

 THE TOWNSEND BRIDGE PROJECT

The Sylvania Community Arts Commission (SCAC) was an important conduit for seeking a local artist to create artwork to enhance a portion of the Silica Road bridge structure crossing the Ottawa River near Sylvania Northview High School. The artwork was placed on a stone pillar adjacent to a plaque honoring a long time art educator at Sylvania Northview, Don Townsend.   The artists selected was Gail Christofferson and was awarded a stipend of $5000.

Submissions for this project have now closed. Thank you!

Creaticity October 2017.

You can view our Creaticity installation while walking the streets of downtown Sylvania. This project invited artists to submit existing art work for consideration. Winning works were then turned into installations which transformed electric and utility boxes throughout downtown Sylvania into colorful and inspiring work by local and regional artists.

Roots of Sylvania, Dani Fuller,

This mural was commissioned by artist Dani Fuller in an effort to bring more public art to the Sylvania community and celebrate the Spirit of Sylvania. Fuller focused on the history and roots of Sylvania in her design that includes imagery of the railroad, Lathrop House, Sam Abell, Jamie Farr and more all connected through beautiful trees. Take a stroll through the historical village to view the large mural on the back of Maplewood Marketplace.
